Meghan H. Buckley, PsyD, Licensed Psychologist

Owner of Blue Heron Psychology

The courage my clients have to come to the first meeting; to tell their story – it’s incredible because it frees them up to reframe problems and focus on solutions with the help of a psychologist. Life is complicated, and sometimes counseling is the best way to deal with it. I founded Blue Heron Psychology to help clients build their mental skillset to enhance their quality of life. My job is to use my professional experience to have a positive impact. I try to make counseling enjoyable and straightforward so clients can walk away knowing they got something out of it. There is no better feeling than saying goodbye to happy clients who are mentally stronger and more confident because of what they learned in counseling.

About Dr. Buckley

Dr. Buckley is a Licensed Psychologist and has been in private practice since 2005. Prior to founding Blue Heron Psychology, she maintained a private practice at the Baltimore Counseling Center for seven years, and taught in the Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) program at Loyola University Maryland for five years. At her practice, she provided counseling and evaluations for adults, couples, children, and adolescents. Her teaching included an Evidence-Based Child Therapy course and direct clinical supervision at the Loyola Clinical Centers, a nonprofit clinic open to the public. In addition to training students to provide individual and family therapy, Dr. Buckley directed two student-lead therapy groups each semester as the Social Skills Group Coordinator.

Dr. Buckley spent two years serving those with serious mental illness as a psychologist at Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville. There she provided individual and group therapy to adolescents, and conducted evaluations for adolescents and adults. Before practicing in Maryland, Dr. Buckley worked with a diverse clientele in Northern Virginia at Associated Clinical Services (ACS), a large private practice. Working first as Chief Resident during her post-doctoral year at ACS and then as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Buckley gained invaluable experience in psychological evaluation and counseling for children, adolescents, adults, and couples.  She also developed an expertise in educational advocacy and forensic consulting for children and teens struggling with behavior problems.

Dr. Buckley earned her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) and Masters of Arts degrees in Clinical Psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University in Northern Virginia. She chose a Doctorate of Psychology (PsyD) program because PsyD programs primarily train students to provide services to clients, whereas Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs primarily train students to conduct research. She completed her doctoral internship at the MidAtlantic Internship Consortium. She also worked as a Psychology Associate in private practice at Psychology Consultants Associated in Baltimore during graduate school. Prior to 2005, Dr. Buckley completed her supervised clinical practice on the Adolescent Unit of Spring Grove Hospital Center and in the Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, where she graduated with honors. She majored in psychology and minored in world religions. She is a member of Psi Chi –  the National Psychology Honor Society, Pi Gamma Mu – the Honor Society for Social Sciences, and Theta Alpha Kappa – the National Honor Society for Religious Studies.  She is also a member of the Maryland Psychological Association, and is credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists.

Dr. Buckley is an alumna of St. Mary's High School in Annapolis. Her husband is a fellow alumnus of St. Mary's and Catholic University, and they have two children together. As a lifetime Marylander, she is pleased to open her home-based office in Annapolis.
